Mission Statement: The mission of S.J. Green and Arthur Ashe Charter Schools is to produce high student achievement in an environment that promotes healthy academics, social and emotional growth of young children and adolescents.

Samuel J Green Charter School collaborates with the nonprofit Edible Schoolyard which had great success with establishing edible gardens in schools in California.  Students who participated in these gardens not only demonstrated a greater understanding of their curriculum but also showed behavioral improvement.  This program has now reached out to schools in New Orleans providing students with the opportunity to participate in gardening and cooking projects that allow students to apply what they learn in the classroom to the real world. In addition through the Emeril Lagasse Foundation the school has built an outdoor classroom immersed in the garden. The edible garden has proven to be a successful implementation in Samuel J Green Charter and you can now even visit their booth at the Freret market!
