George Washington Carver was a scientist educator and inventor who played an influential role in developing southern agriculture. Carver believed in expanding the variety of crops grown in the south in a way that bettered the poor, by including crops that could be consumed or helped to improve the farmer’s quality of life. His innovative ideas and desire to use them in a way that bettered the many is also a model for learning and acquiring skills. As Carver Elementary works towards preparing its students for high school it is important to follow in his footsteps and for the students to not only use knowledge as tool to better oneself but also those who surround them.
